Skilled Assembler

Must have 6 months or greater detailed custom wood assembly experience. This is an entry level position and many times the one chosen for the position will work under mentorship of a Display Maker Level 2 or higher position.


  • Must be able to meet and/or exceed production pieces per hour as determined by router
  • Handle and stack material in a manner that will ensure the safe and secure handling of the material
  • Must maintain accurate counts of parts and move material to and from work station
  • Must be able to identify and report any deviations from defined quality standards and check the quality of parts produced at specified intervals
  • Operate production machinery using basic hand tools like drill press, battery powered drivers, chop saw, etc.,
  • Must be proficient at laminating and trimming operations
  • Must be able to participates in a team environment and must be self motivated
  • Must be able to work under tight tolerance fit up situations and must be able to identify species of wood and match laminates
  • Must be able to move material to and from department in a safe manner
  • Must be able to perform regular housekeeping without supervision
  • Must know the SDS sheet terminology
  • Must be able to perform visual and simple mechanical quality inspection of products being produced
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • While performing the duties of this job, the contributor is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle controls; and talk or hear
  • The contributor frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The contributor is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop
  • The contributor must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and periodically lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance
  • Must follow sound lifting techniques and if needed ask for help when lifting over 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus


  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings using both English and metric measurements
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently and be able to setup an efficient assembly station without supervision
  • Fabricate complex jigs, displays, prototypes, etc. from raw materials using all available equipment without supervision
  • Must be able to assemble finished product using sub-assemblies, parts, and fasteners, and pack in designated carton according to customer specification sheets
  • Must be able to demonstrate complete laminating and trimming operations
  • Must demonstrate advanced mechanical aptitude
  • Must have the ability to safely and efficiently operate hand tools and power tools
  • Must be able to handle complex assembles
  • Must be able to pass the Lock-out/Tag-out procedure that is in place
  • Demonstrate the ability to use measuring tools including, but not limited to Digital Calipers and tape measures (decimal, fractional, and metric) commonly found in the shop to check work and ensure compliance with Bench Dogs' requirements from mechanical drawings
  • Complete clocking requirements as determined by Production Supervisor in ERP system


Typical work week is 40 hours in a 4-day workweek environment. The typical work day is 10 hours per day but must be willing and able to work overtime as required to meet changing work demands.

High school diploma or GED, must have over 2 years' hands of wood related experience under the direction of a Production Supervisor
